Name: Terina Kiss
Title: Head of Family Law and a Principal Lawyer
Based in both Sale and York, Terina is Head of Family Law and a Principal Lawyer specialising in divorce law, matrimonial financial remedy and private children matters, with experience of private client, probate and being able to adapt to any area of law following her legal training at Bar School. Terina is also a member of Resolution and IDAS.
Initially Called to the Bar of England and Wales as a Barrister, having obtained two scholarships, The Sir Thomas More Scholarship from her Inn of Court, Lincoln’s Inn and the Director of BPP Law from her then Law School BPP for outstanding academic achievement. Terina is also a scholarly member of the Lord Denning Society, Lincoln’s Inn, London.
Following qualification Terina worked for Humberside Police within the legal services unit and covert authority bureau before being asked to work in private practice in a North Lincolnshire law firm. To practice law within the private arena Terina choose to cross qualify and obtain automatic rights as FILEx.
Terina now aspires to become a family Judge and has further interests in advocating for legislative/legal reform regarding domestic violence and the family law arena as a whole; understanding the difficult focus on judicial and professional training reforms in respect of the complex dynamics of domestic abuse and the fundamental effects upon victims, children and their families.
Terina sees private family matters through from start to finish ensuring continuity, establishing a relaxed and friendly relationship with her clients whilst maintaining a professional approach. With the ability and advocacy experience to represent her client’s at court from the First through to the Final Hearing, Terina will always endeavour, in the first instance, to reach a negotiated settlement with the other party to avoid unnecessary court proceedings; always striving to achieve the best possible outcome given each individual client’s case. Besides divorce and related financial matters, Terina also specialises in private Children Act matters, pre and post nuptial agreements, co-habitation agreements, separation agreements, civil partnerships, TLATA (Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 – advice up to court only), property disputes between unmarried couples.

Terina has a keen interest in sport having competed for Great Britain and England with her chosen sport of karate, Wado Ryu. Obtaining her black belt at the age of 15 she was the European Kata Champion twice and has competed in both individual and team kumite at both national and international levels in countries across Europe and Great Britain. Terina even appeared on a BBC programme demonstrating karate!
These days Terina prefers to take part in other sports such a mountain biking and skiing, which she has done across Europe and Canada – with the Rockies being her favourite….she can also be found on the treadmill at home following lockdown! As a little bit of an adrenaline junkie, Terina also rode motocross and had her own motocross bike, until a few injuries persuaded her that a glass of red and chilling by a log fire after a walk in the countryside was really the more adult way to progress!
Terina can regularly be found supporting her 11 year old son playing rugby union and taking part in his many sporting activities.
